What You Need to Make This Recipe
Pizza dough — check out my recipe for a delicious homemade pizza dough. I have a complete step-by-step guide on how to make dough from scratch, and it’s super easy to make ahead of time so you can make this pizza in a flash. Alternatively, you can use store-bought pizza dough. Pizza sauce — you can use homemade or store-bought pizza sauce. When buying store-bought sauce, keep an eye on the ingredient list and try to get one with fewer filler ingredients. Mozzarella — you can slice your own mozzarella or buy it pre-shredded. Keep in mind that fresh mozzarella has a lot of moisture, so it might cause the pizza to become watery.
How to Make Cheese Pizza
On a lightly floured surface, stretch the dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a non-stick baking sheet.
Spread the pizza sauce onto the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edge.
Sprinkle with mozzarella.
Sprinkle with parmesan before baking for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the crust is browned and the cheese is bubbling.
Pro Tips for Making This Recipe
If you have a non-stick pizza pan, use it in place of the sheet pan. To stretch the pizza dough, use your fingertips to press a ring around the edge to make the crust, then using your knuckles, hold the pizza up in the air, turning it slowly, and let gravity stretch the dough into a circle. For a crispier crust, you can preheat the sheet pan in the oven before adding your dough to it. Don’t be tempted to overload the pizza with cheese and sauce. Too much sauce will make the pizza soggy, and too much cheese will slide off the pizza. Make sure to preheat your oven, so it’s nice and hot before baking the pizzas. This helps create a super crispy base! Let the pizza cool before slicing, as it gives the cheese time to firm up. If it’s too hot, it’ll melt back into the cut and stick the slices back together.
What is the best cheese for pizza?
Mozzarella is a classic cheese for pizza. However, feel free to change things up. Some of my other favorite cheeses are cheddar, provolone, goat cheese, and burrata cheese.
How do I store leftovers?
Store leftover pizza in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. Be sure to wrap it in plastic wrap to prevent the pizza from taking on smells in the refrigerator. To reheat, microwave, or reheat in the oven.
Can I freeze this?
You can! To freeze individual slices of cheese pizza, wrap them up in plastic wrap one by one and freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to eat, thaw in the fridge and reheat in the oven or microwave.
