What You’ll Need for This Recipe

Chocolate syrup: You can use any chocolate syrup you enjoy, make a quick chocolate ganache, or omit this from the drink. Chocolate liqueur: I used Godiva Chocolate Liqueur and creme de cacao for this drink. Both work well. Irish Cream: I find that Baileys works best for this recipe.

How to Make a Chocolate Martini

  1. If you’re garnishing the glass with chocolate then you should drizzle a bit inside the martini glasses. A spiral looks especially nice but may take a bit of practice.

  2. Add a circle of chocolate on a small plate and drag the glass’ rim along it for a nice chocolate rim.

  3. To make the drink add about a cup of ice to a cocktail shaker and then pour in the vodka, chocolate liqueur, and Baileys.

  4. Close up the shaker and a give it a vigorous shake. This step is important because it cools the drink and adds the water needed for balance. If you like your drinks stronger then stir away and skip the shaking.

  5. Pour the drink into your prepared glasses.

  6. Finish with a sprinkle of shaved chocolate If desired.

Pro Tips for this Recipe

The garnish is optional but you can always garnish the glasses ahead of time and store them in the fridge for a few hours-overnight. If you like things less sweet then add an extra jigger of vodka. Have fun with different flavor additions. Cherry liqueur for chocolate cherry martinis, espresso or coffee liqueur for a mocha martini etc. You can mix the cocktails in advance and shake or stir with ice before serving.

Is creme de cacao the same as chocolate liqueur?

Creme de cacao is flavored with chocolate and often a dash of vanilla. It can be used interchangeably with Godiva chocolate liqueur as well as other brands.

Should a martini be shaken or stirred?

This is up to debate and personal taste. Most straight spirit only cocktails are stirred while those with mixers are shaken. I enjoy this chocolate martini shaken with tiny shards of ice mixed in.

Do you need to add the chocolate rim and swirl inside?

Nope, this drink is delicious on it’s own but the chocolate garnish adds a wonderful appearance as well as a bit of extra flavor. You can also just wet the rim and add either sugar or a chocolate sugar made by mixing cocoa powder and sugar together.  If you love this recipe try these out!Cucumber MartiniLemon Drop MartiniFrench MartiniOld FashionedMargarita Recipe If you’ve tried this Chocolate Martini recipe then don’t forget to leave a rating and let me know how you got on in the comments below, I love hearing from you!
