Super Creamy 5-Minute Avocado Chocolate Pudding

Avocado chocolate pudding is a must-try for anyone hoping to satisfy sweet/ chocolate cravings in a healthier, more nutritious way. Unlike avocado toast and avocado pesto, which celebrate its flavor, this avocado pudding recipe combines it with ingredients like cocoa powder, maple syrup, and nut/seed butter for a super creamy pudding where you can’t even taste the avocado! Instead, the avocado helps create a healthy chocolate pudding with a super-rich, silky, creamy texture loaded with antioxidants (to help reduce inflammation and fight harmful free radicals), nearly 20 vitamins and minerals, and heart-healthy fats. Plus, unlike regular pudding/mousse (including my 10-minute vegan chocolate pudding), this recipe can be pulled together in just 5 minutes and a couple of simple, fuss-free steps. The Ingredients

Avocado: Use soft, ripe avocados (that aren’t stringy) so they blend into a super smooth and creamy avocado pudding. Cocoa powder: Use unsweetened cocoa – regular or Dutch Process will work. Use raw cacao powder for the most antioxidants/nutrients. Dairy-free milk: Use any unsweetened milk like almond milk, oat milk, soy milk, etc. For the richest results, try canned lite or full-fat coconut milk. Maple syrup: Or another liquid sweetener, like agave, brown rice syrup, date syrup, or a sugar-free option (like liquid stevia) for a low-carb/keto option. Adjust amount to taste. Nut/Seed Butter: E.g., almond butter, peanut butter, sunflower seed butter. This adds natural richness with extra healthy fats and a little protein. Omit it if preferred, though. Vanilla extract: (Optional, to add depth) Use natural vanilla for the best flavor.

What Could I Add to Avocado Chocolate Pudding?

Salt: A pinch of sea salt will enhance and add depth to the cocoa flavor. Ground coffee: A teaspoon of instant coffee/espresso will enhance the chocolate flavor. Add more for a mocha flavor. Cinnamon: Add to taste. Flavored extracts: Add a few drops of your favorite. E.g., almond, orange, mint, etc., for flavor variations. Beet: Add just half a small beet to sneak in extra nutrients and antioxidants with little change to the flavor.

How to Make Avocado Chocolate Pudding

First, slice the avocado in half, remove the pit, and transfer the flesh to a small blender or food processor. Add the remaining ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

Then taste it and adjust any of the ingredients to your liking.

Serving Recommendations

Enjoy avocado pudding as a snack or dessert, either alone or with your favorite toppings, like:

Chopped nuts Shredded coconut Fresh berries (like strawberries, cherries, or raspberries) or sliced banana Vegan coconut whipped cream Chocolate shavings or cacao nibs A drizzle of vegan caramel sauce Simple fruit compote or jam/ chia jam

You can also enjoy the avocado pudding as part of other dishes, like homemade parfaits, trifles, and even tiramisu.

Storage Instructions

Make ahead: For the best flavor and texture, prepare the avocado dessert at least an hour before serving, storing it in the refrigerator until it’s ready to serve. Store: You can store the prepared avocado chocolate pudding covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-4 days, giving it a stir between servings. It may thicken when chilled, so thin it out with a bit of non-dairy milk, if preferred. Freeze: If you plan to freeze the avocado chocolate pudding (for 2-3 months), then it’s actually best to enjoy it as a semi-frozen treat or pudding pops, as it doesn’t thaw particularly well.

Recipe Notes

Tweak the flavors: Blend, then taste and adjust any of the ingredients to your liking. Leave to chill: If you have the time, I highly recommend leaving the pudding to chill in the refrigerator for 30-60 minutes before serving. This improves the taste and texture. For thicker/thinner pudding: Adjust the amount of plant-based milk you add.

Can you taste the avocado?

Combining the mild flavor of avocado (make sure they aren’t overly brown or stringy) with cocoa powder and maple syrup perfectly masks the ‘avocado-ness’ while maintaining the creaminess.

Can I use frozen avocado?

It should be fine to use frozen and thawed avocado to make this avocado pudding recipe. Just note that the flavor and texture of thawed avocado changes slightly.

Can I reduce the fat in the chocolate avocado pudding?

If you replace a portion (up to 50%) of the avocado with silken tofu, you can reduce the fat levels and increase plant-based protein.
