Hoisin Glazed Salmon and Veggies in Foil

This Hoisin Glazed Salmon in Foil with Veggies recipe couldn’t be easier. Everything is cooked in aluminum foil and baked — which means easy clean up and minimal effort. Dinner is ready and on the table in under 30 minutes! The salmon gets coated in an easy Hoisin sauce that’s sweet, sour, and tangy. Hoisin makes a wonderful glaze for this salmon. This sauce requires only three simple ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry — Hoisin, soy sauce, and sesame oil. I brush half of the sauce on the fish before I bake it, and reserve the other half for when the salmon comes out of the oven to season the filet before serving. While the salmon is cooking, I whip up some rice or quinoa to serve with it and the veggies. And voila! Dinner is served. (Told you it was easy!)

What Exactly Is Hoisin?

Hoisin sauce is a pungent, fragrant, tasty sauce often used in Asian dishes like vegetable stir-fry and grilled meals, as well as marinades. It’s a key ingredient in many Chinese dishes and is sometimes called Chinese barbecue sauce. Originally a Cantonese condiment, hoisin sauce is typically made from a combination of fermented soybean paste, garlic, vinegar, sesame oil, chiles, and sweetener. It adds a umami flavor to the dishes it’s cooked with, combining sweet, tangy, and spicy elements. It is not made with any animal products, so it’s suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

Ingredients for the 3-Ingredient Hoisin Sauce

To make this super-simple, multi-purpose hoisin sauce, simply combine the following ingredients in a bowl and whisk:

1/4 cup hoisin 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil

Set sauce aside until time to pour over the salmon and veggies while they bake in the foil.

Ingredients for This Hoisin-Glazed Salmon in Foil with Veggies

For this dish, you’ll need the 3-ingredient hoisin sauce described above as well as the following ingredients:

Olive oil: For drizzling on fish and veggies in foil before baking. Sesame Seeds: For garnish, if desired Salt and Pepper: To taste Salmon Filets: You only need two for this recipe. Opt for deboned and wild-caught, if possible. Fresh Mixed Vegetables: You’ll need two cups total. I used a bag of mixed carrots, broccoli, and snap peas. If the pieces of broccoli are large, cut them to make them smaller so the broccoli cooks all the way through with the other veggies.

How To Make Hoisin Glazed Salmon and Veggies in Foil

Line two separate sheets of aluminum foil on a baking sheet. Place veggies on the bottom and drizzle with a little oil to prevent sticking and add flavor. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, to taste. Place a piece of salmon on top of each pile of vegetables. Prepare the hoisin sauce by combining hoisin, soy sauce, and sesame oil in a separate bowl. Brush the salmon filets with half of the prepared hoisin sauce. Reserve the other half is reserved for when the salmon comes out of the oven. Fold up the aluminum foil around the salmon and veggies until everything is covered and sealed tight. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked all the way through and the veggies are tender. Serve immediately with sesame seeds and remaining hoisin sauce if desired.
