BAM! Soft, homemade pretzels wrapped around a hot dog and sprinkled with coarse sea salt. DIP, DUNK, and SWIRL it all in some delish, jalapeno cheddar cheese sauce. Pretzel dogs, my how you make me love you. It’s what football season is all about. Okay, so I should’ve said that that’s what football season is all about for me. Football mainly means 3 things to me and none of them actually have anything to do with football itself, go figure! 1.) chilly evenings with a.) warm oversized sweaters or b.) big comfy blankets 2.) this one is the epitome of football season: snacks, snack galore 3.) pumpkin spice lattes I’ve been quite obsessed with pretzels lately. Earlier this year I made my garlic parmesan soft pretzels which have quickly become one of the most pinned recipe here on Little Spice Jar. It’s an easy recipe that can be used to make regular salted pretzels, the cinnamon sugar kind, or one of my favorite, garlic parmesan pretzels. Mmm. My heart beats for soft garlicky pretzels. So.. hot dogs aren’t really my thing anymore. Nah. Nope. It’s probably the only thing I agreed to eat as an after school snack when I was 10. And now, the quick microwaved hot dog stuffed in a store bought bun just doesn’t do it for me anymore. But i’ll take a pretzel dog all snuggled and warm and cozily wrapped inside a pretzel. ← I really have a thing for cozy foods. Or cozy anything, really. All I did for these pretzel dogs is whip up a quick batch of pretzel dough. The recipe i’m sharing today is adapted from Alton Brown. All you do is wrap the dough around the hot dogs and boom! You’ve got pretzel dogs just like the ones they serve in the mall – Auntie Anne’s pretzel dogs at home in no time.

Here’s a quick tip to make your dough rise when you’re wanting these pretzel dogs lightening fast: To make your dough rise in half the time the recipe calls for (works for most recipes) just run your dryer on low heat for 3 minutes. Turn the dryer off and place your dough (in a bowl, covered with plastic wrap, of course) inside for half the time the recipe calls for. There you go! This works because 1.) it’s warm2.) it’s dark. That’s exactly what’s required for the yeast to work it’s magic. These homemade pretzel dogs are just the ticket that will make you the best snack-maker for game day. Don’t stop with just the coarse salt. Top these pretzel dogs with sesame seeds, Montreal steak seasoning, or whatever else you can think of. And if you’re an even bigger hero, split the dough in half and make half pretzel dogs and use the rest of the dough to make pretzels or pretzel bites. Hot, lightly crisp, buttery, sweet, pretzel dogs. Serve them up with jalapeno cheddar cheese sauce (recipe coming soon), ketchup, or mustard. Come on now, get on this.

The dough should double in size. If not, allow to sit for another 5-10 minutes.Recipe adapted from Alton Brown Homemade Pretzel Dogs Recipe Little Spice Jar - 62Homemade Pretzel Dogs Recipe Little Spice Jar - 33Homemade Pretzel Dogs Recipe Little Spice Jar - 30Homemade Pretzel Dogs Recipe Little Spice Jar - 67Homemade Pretzel Dogs Recipe Little Spice Jar - 62Homemade Pretzel Dogs Recipe Little Spice Jar - 29Homemade Pretzel Dogs Recipe Little Spice Jar - 40Homemade Pretzel Dogs Recipe Little Spice Jar - 82
