It simply doesn’t make any sense why most people pet a cat or dog but eat a part of a pig (bacon) for breakfast or a part of the cow (steak) for dinner. What is the difference between a dog and a pig? Yes, they look different, but they both have feelings. They form connections with family and friends, and they both want to live, such as we do.
Our parents and society taught us that there are pets like dogs and cats which are cute and that there are furthermore farm animals which are our food. But this is not correct. It is not unusual to eat cats and dogs in China, because this is their culture. In India, people don’t eat cows because cows are holy to them. As children, we loved ALL animals, doesn’t matter if it was a cat or a chicken. We naturally don’t have the desire to hunt animals and eat them, we are not carnivores. Watch the following documentary on YouTube, it’s excellent and it’s free and explains in detail the top reasons to go vegan:
For your health
A whole food plant-based diet has a lot of health benefits like increased energy, better digestion, weight loss, fewer colds, and many more. There are numerous studies that prove that a plant-based diet can prevent diseases like cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. It can furthermore even reverse heart disease as per Michael Greger (M.D.) as stated on his amazing website https://nutritionfacts.org ! A plant-based diet is rich in fiber, healthy protein, iron, calcium, and other essential vitamins and minerals. It’s low in saturated fat and cholesterol, but full of antioxidants. Meat and dairy, on the other hand, contain artery-clogging cholesterol and no fiber at all. As a result, we might get sick from it. Watch a short trailer of Forks Over Knives. It explains how a “normal” diet which contains meat, dairy, and eggs causes obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer:
For the environment
More facts are shared on the Cowspiracy website. Watch this short trailer from the documentary Cowspiracy to see some top reasons to go vegan:
For the people
We are currently growing enough food to feed 10 billion people Worldwide, at least 50% of grain is fed to livestock 82% of starving children live in countries where food is fed to animals, and the animals are eaten by western countries
Why vegetarian isn’t enough
I was a vegetarian for almost 25 years. For such a long time I didn’t know about the suffering caused by the dairy and also the egg industry. Do you know that the production of eggs involves the killing of male chicks? In most countries, they are ground alive when they are just one day old. This happens because they are of no use to the egg industry. Do you know that male calves are slaughtered early on in life for veal? Please take a moment to watch this short animation of the life of a cow in the dairy industry:
Ethical meat?
Most people believe that the meat they eat is ethical and also that the animals lived a happy life. They might think that the animals didn’t experience any pain or fear at the slaughterhouse but that’s wrong. Yet the sad truth is that all living creatures (even those labeled ‘free-range’ or ‘organic’) fear death, just as we do. No matter how they are treated when alive, they all experience the same fear when it comes to slaughter.
The good news
The good news is there IS something we can do about it. Every time we shop or order food in a restaurant – every time we eat – we can choose to help these animals. Every time we make the switch from an animal product to a vegan one we are standing up for farmed animals everywhere. Going vegan is easier than ever before with veganism becoming increasingly mainstream as more and more people from all walks of life discover the benefits of living this way. It’s time to ask ourselves: if it is now possible to live a life that involves delicious food and drinks, deliver better health, leave a smaller carbon footprint, and avoids killing other creatures – then why don’t we? Thanks for taking the time to read about all the reasons to go vegan and maybe your next dinner will be vegan. 🙂 Sources: https://cowspiracy.com https://vegansociety.com
