Stuffed baked apple crisp

The further we get into fall, the more I seem to crave apples. I love them as a snack, in pies, or — my favorite way — an apple crisp. These Stuffed Baked Apples are a fun twist on a classic apple crisp. In this version, everything gets stuffed inside the apple, peel and all! Apples and cinnamon with a drizzle of caramel is exactly what fall is all about. I love serving these baked apples with some whipped cream on top, but I would also love having this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! Yum!

Ingredients Needed

Apples: I like using Gala apples, but whichever sturdy apple you prefer would work! Granny Smith, honey crisp, or pink lady apples would also work well. Lemon Juice: To prevent browning!

Cinnamon Sugar Mixture

Butter: The first layer of flavor in this apple crispy recipe is the cinnamon sugar mixture that is sprinkled on top. A little bit of butter helps, too! Granulated Sugar: For sweetness! Cinnamon: To spice things up!

For the Oat Flour Mixture

Unsalted Butter: If you use salted butter, skip the addition of salt so they don’t get too salty. In this step, we will brown the butter for a depth of flavor that is nutty and caramely! Oats: Old-fashioned oats work well because they will hold up in the oven and stay crispy on the top! All Purpose Flour: For a gluten-free streusel topping, you can use a gluten-free replacement flour! Light Brown Sugar: To add a bit of sweetness. Spices: The warming fall spices in this stuffed baked apple crisp are cinnamon, cloves and allspice. Salt: To balance out all the flavors!

For Serving

Whipped Cream: You can make homemade whipped cream, or use the bottled stuff! Caramel Sauce: To make this a sweeter treat, drizzle a little bit of caramel sauce on top. Vanilla Ice Cream: Don’t forget a scoop of vanilla ice cream to top this off!

(Honestly, they don’t last long enough to freeze in our house!) Just freeze in an airtight container that’s big enough not to squish them for up to one month. Reheat from frozen in the oven until warmed through.
