Can’t get enough chocolate? How about Chocolate Truffle Cake?!? Turkish delight have always been fascinating for me. I firs heard about them when reading the Chronicles of Narnia, when one boy betrays his family for the promise of more of it. But it was years later that I first tried Turkish delight for myself, which only fed my love for these iconic treats. Great to eat, but also fun to add to baking! But as great as Turkish delight is, they aren’t even the best part of these brownies. What makes them truly glorious is the amount of chocolate melted into the batter! Do you know how many brownie recipes have no chocolate in them but only cocoa? Loads! And that is a travesty! How can you make your brownies fudgy if the essence of the fudgyness is missing? There are many ways that people try but none of them are half as delicious as putting real chocolate in and getting THIS as a result! Goodness gracious, were they EVER amazing! I have to say that topping them with a chocolate bar filled with Turkish Delight was a stroke of a genius! Too self-congratulatory? Perhaps but I make no apologies. Instead I am going to show you what they looked like up close…See those bits? Especially the one in the middle that’s oozing that rose and honey fragrance? I was smitten and so were my guests! I was expecting friends for dinner when I made these brownies, and because of that I decided that we needed a lot of them, like a 9X13 inch pan a lot! Many recipes will try to limit this goodness to 8X8. Not me. I am generous like that. Enjoy!

What is Turkish delight?

There are few sweet treats that are quite like Turkish delight. Although something similar exists in lots of European countries, they are definitely associated with the country they are named for, and where they probably originated. They are very soft in texture, but just enough resistance to keep your teeth interested. Apparently they inspired the texture of jelly beans, although they certainly have a lot more elegance to offer. Open up one box of Turkish delight and it will look like any other, cubes of confection covered in powdered sugar. But the real difference is inside as Turkish delight comes in a huge range of delicate flavours. I kept things simple for this recipe by using a chocolate bar that already has Turkish delight embedded. If you can’t find a similar bar, then any chocolate bar will do. You won’t get Turkish delight brownies, but they’ll still taste fantastic!
